When to use Pegafit

Use Pegafit to catch climbing insects to prevent them from reaching the top of the tree. Pegafit is an arboreal rubber that can be applied to tree trunks and branches at any time of the year.

How does Pegafit work

Pegafit is easy and quick to apply. It is compact and resistant to environmental conditions so it is a safe tool for integrated pest management. Once applied around the tree trunk, it creates a safe barrier that prevents ants and other climbing and unwanted insects. As a result, you can reduce the incidence of pests such as aphids, ants, mealybugs, earwigs and caterpillars, among others. Pegafit was specially designed for use in trees and is waterproof. Its properties remain unchanged for more than eight weeks. It is non-toxic and leaves no residue.

Directions for use

Application

Apply Pegafit directly to the trunk, at a minimum height of between 30 and 40 cm from the ground. In low-forming trees, apply it just where the main branches begin on the trunk. In the case of old trees, check that there is no possible passage in the roughness of the bark.

Prepare a bucket of soapy water and have it within reach to wet your hands.
With wet hands, take an apple-sized sample of the rubber paste. It’s recommended to wet your hands constantly while handling the rubber.
Stretch the sample at one end and roll it around the trunk forming a rubber ring. Make one or two rings depending on the required protection or the final thickness of the desired ring. Check that there are no gaps or passages left, especially in old trees with cracked bark.
To complete the ring, attach the two ends surrounding the trunk and cut the excess rubber, either with wet scissors (which can be carried in the bucket of water) or by pulling with both hands, taking care not to break the rubber through excessive force.

Dosage

Citrus: 1 to 2 cans / Ha approximately.
Other fruit trees: 1 to 2 cans / Ha approximately.

Best working conditions for Pegafit

Duration may vary depending on environmental dust and the number of insects caught in the rubber. In optimal conditions, Pegafit has a lifespan of 8 to 10 weeks. In very young trees, direct application to the trunk can cause necrosis in the bark. To avoid this, cover the desired trunk area with water-resistant paper and apply Pegafit over it.

Bird protection: Avoid the application of the product on horizontal branches so as not to inadvertently catch insectivorous birds.

Avoid the growth of weeds around the tree to prevent harmful insects from climbing up the tree without passing through the area where the product has been applied.

Check periodically that the sticky band is not saturated with insects.

Handling

Keep out of reach of children. Do not eat, drink or smoke during use. Prevent its release into the environment. Dispose content/container in a hazardous or special waste collection or collection centre in accordance with local, regional, national and/or international regulations. Only use products that are allowed in your country, state and crop. Review your country's phytosanitary registration requirements. Koppert is not responsible for loss of quality if the product is stored for longer than recommended or under inappropriate conditions.
