About Koppert

The answers to many of today’s agricultural and environmental challenges are already out there: in nature itself. At Koppert, we explore, understand, and apply these natural solutions in partnership with nature. Using natural enemies to control pests, bumblebees for pollination, and microbials that support, protect, and strengthen crops. Improving plant health both above and underground. Since 1967, we’ve been helping growers worldwide cultivate healthier crops with high-quality biological crop protection.

Discover our milestones

Expanding in the digital world

What began in the greenhouse and expanded to the field is now entering the digital world. After half a century of innovation in natural solutions and smart technology, Koppert continues to grow. By introducing an AI-driven Digital Assistant, we brought the knowledge and expertise of our specialists just a click away from the growers. The assistant can now be found inside the Koppert One application.

New Koppert branding

We unveil a new brand identity that reflects who we are today: a company deeply connected to nature and driven by the ambition to make agriculture more sustainable for the future.

Steps towards future-ready packaging

We take steps toward our ‘Zero Waste by 2030’ goal by introducing more sustainable packaging solutions. The eco-friendly cooler box, designed for long-distance transport, keeps our alive products fresh and of high quality upon arrival. It marks the beginning of a new chapter in sustainable packaging, soon followed by innovations like cardboard Mirical strips, recycled bottles, and more sustainable Natupol hives.

Koppert Foundation is established

During our 50th jubilee, the Koppert Foundation was established to share knowledge and promote sustainable agriculture worldwide. Its mission: to support education, training, and access to sustainable farming solutions, especially in areas where resources and training are limited.

Expanding to South America

With the acquisition of the Brazilian company Itaforte, we take an important step forward in the development of microbiological solutions. This milestone opens the door to a new world of opportunities, allowing the company to bring biocontrol to large-scale arable crops.

Swirski mite saves Spanish growers

The introduction of Amblyseius swirskii (Swirski-Mite) transforms Spanish agriculture. Facing export challenges due to chemical residues, sweet pepper growers adopt this natural ally and take a major step toward more sustainable, residue-free cultivation.

Introduction of Trianum

We further explore the world of microbiology and introduce Trianum, a product that strengthens the root environment and shields crops from soil-borne pathogens.

Expanding to a new continent & a new market

We open our first production facility outside Europe, in the United States. Around the same time, large-scale trials explore the use of bumblebees in outdoor crops. The success of these studies leads to the launch of the first hives for fruit production, expanding the benefits of natural pollination beyond the greenhouse borders.

Koppert produces first bumblebees for natural pollination

In 1988, we introduced bumblebees into greenhouses for the first time: a breakthrough for growers and sustainable horticulture. From that moment on, pollination no longer had to be done by hand, saving time and enhancing crop quality. It also marked a turning point toward more sustainable growing practices, as pesticides harmful to the bumblebees could no longer be used.

Start production beneficial nematodes

The start of the production of entomopathogenic nematodes marked a major milestone. By harnessing the power of these microscopic organisms, we opened a new chapter in biological pest control. Nematodes offered growers a natural way to control pests hidden below the surface and later, we discovered they would be very efficient for foliar pests as well.

Crossing borders & first R&D department

We take our mission beyond borders, opening our first international subsidiary in the United Kingdom. Around the same time, the first researcher joins the team, marking the start of our own R&D department and a lifelong commitment to innovation.

Koppert produces first predatory wasp

We take our next big step by expanding beyond mites and introducing our first parasitic wasp, Encarsia formosa (En-Strip) - a natural ally against whitefly.

Jan Koppert lays the foundation for biological crop protection

Cucumber grower Jan Koppert faced a challenge: the pesticides he used in his greenhouse were no longer working. Refusing to accept this, he and his son Peter turned towards nature for a better solution. Their search led them to Switzerland, where they found the predatory mite Phytoseiulus persimilis (Spidex), a natural enemy of the spider mite, marking the start of biological crop protection.

Our company

Our story

To make our world more sustainable, we need ways of growing that are both safe and healthy. We believe the answers to these agricultural challenges lie in nature itself. So, we partner with nature. And help our planet to find its balance. Using natural enemies to control pests, bumblebees for pollination, and microbials that support, protect, and strengthen crops. Improving plant health both above and underground.

We were founded in 1967 by Jan Koppert, a Dutch grower with a clear vision; the world needed an alternative to chemical pesticides. He was the first to find a natural solution to combat the pest in his crop. Setting in motion a major transformation towards sustainable agriculture.

For over 55 years, we have been pushing agricultural innovation, and these efforts have impact. Growers and farmers worldwide use our products and knowledge to restore the natural balance in their crops. Improving crop health, resilience, and yield.

Together we are meeting the highest food safety demands on our way to our ultimate goal: 100% sustainable agriculture.

A clear goal we can’t complete on our own. That’s why we team up with growers, partners, universities, research stations, and governmental bodies worldwide. Together, we contribute to the better health of people and the planet. So, let’s continue to move forward and Partner with Nature.

Our ambition

The world needs 100% sustainable agriculture. In partnership with nature, we help to make agriculture healthier, safer, and more productive by developing and promoting sustainable growing practices.

Our values

We partner with nature
To make our world more sustainable, we need growing solutions that are both safe and healthy. With everything we do, we must make sure nature and people benefit equally. We believe the answers to our agricultural challenges lie in nature itself. And in restoring the natural balance of our planet. That is why we partner with nature.

We work for growers
Founded by a grower ourselves, we never forget our roots. We provide growers worldwide with our products and knowledge. We understand their challenges and feel a strong responsibility to help them restore the natural balance in their crops. Through them, we contribute to making safe, high quality and affordable food available.

We keep improving
Driven by our mission, we are always on the lookout for new and better solutions. We continuously build our know-how and improve our processes, products and services to exceed our customers’ expectations. By staying open to new ideas and learning through trial and error, we remain pioneers in our field.

We build global networks
Collaboration is in our DNA. We know that to realize our ambition, we have to work together. Through our global network, we share our vision and knowledge, build valuable connections, and inspire others. Our global network is crucial, so safeguarding this network is just as important as building it. Together, we work towards our ultimate goal: 100% sustainable agriculture.

We are family
We are a family company, and we treat each other as family. We care for, respect, and value each other. We are united through our shared values and strong belief in biological solutions and sustainable growing practices.

Our history

In 1967, cucumber grower Jan Koppert searched for a new solution for fighting pests and diseases as the pesticides he relied on began to lose their effectiveness. He was the first to find and introduce a natural solution: a natural enemy, the Phytoseiulus persimilis, to combat spider mite.

The results and effects were so impressive that Jan Koppert decided to produce this solution, not only for his own company, but to sell it to his fellow growers. Koppert was born.

Jan’s sons, Peter and Paul Koppert, and his nephew Henri Oosthoek saw the huge potential in this revolutionary natural innovation. They took a small business and transformed it into the pioneering global market leader that Koppert is today. Since those early days, we have expanded our range of beneficial insects, introduced natural pollinators, and developed microbial products. Now our biological crop protection is accessible to growers and farmers in over 100 countries worldwide.

Today, we have over 55 years of experience discovering and unlocking the natural solutions hidden in nature. Providing a sustainable alternative to chemical pesticides and setting in motion a major transformation towards sustainable agriculture to ensure a healthy future for people and the planet.
