When to use Metarril

Use Metarril to control the sugar cane spittlebug (Mahanarva fimbiolata). Monitor the presence of nymphs in the field after the first rains. Start application once the pest is detected (foam with nymphs at the base of the clumps). One or two applications per year. The fungus acts on different stages of development of the hosts, such as larvae or nymphs, pupae and adults.

How Metarril works

The infection usually occurs via tegument, where the fungus invades and totally colonizes the insect’s body. After 72 hours on average, the pathogen causes the death of the host. The attacked insect become hard and covered in a powdery layer of conidia, in greenish tones, varying from light to dark, greyish or even whitish with green dots.

Application

Land application
Metarril should be applied in liquid form, using boom or knapsack sprayers, with the jet spray directed towards the base of the plant. It can be adapted with fan-type nozzle. The volume of mixture should be 250 L/hectares. During application, the mixture must be constantly shaken to ensure it is properly homogenized. The recommendation is 500-700 grams/hectares.

Metarril should be applied using agricultural aircraft equipped with a boom spray. The ideal flight altitude is 3-4 metres over the crop. The volume of mixture can vary between 40-60 litres/hectares, depending on the equipment used. During application, shake the mixture as necessary to ensure it is properly homogenized. The recommendation is 500-700 grams/hectares.
